1948 Porsche 356-A Roadster
Scale 1:18 (8½ inches)
1948 Porsche 356-A Roadster - The Legendary Porsche 356 - The perfect unity of performance and design for its time! This first true Porsche, the '356,' named for its design project number, was actually built in a small garage in Gmund, Austria. Like the Beetle, the 356 was fitted with a flat-four pushrod air-cooled engine in the rear, yet its gearbox in front of the axle to give the car better balance. It was a 1131 cc flat-four-air-cooled engine which was boosted from 25 bhp to 40 bhp. The torsion-bar rear suspension also had to be turned around which gave the car the characteristic oversteering. The original 356-001 car was raced in the Innsbruck city race, and acheived a victory in the 1100cc class in its very first outing! Later there would be a 2-litre model, producing a very respectful 150bhp. One of the most famous Porsches was the Speedster, a sleek, so-called 'stripped down' version of the 356 that hit the roads in 1954. The aluminum-bodied roadster with its rounded chasis became the prodigal child of the Porsche line, as every model since has resembled it in one form or another. The Roadster was an individual from the get-go and resounded Porsche's founding ideals of originality and the breaking of new automotive ground.
2004 Porsche Carrera GT
Scale 1:18 (9½ inches)
200 Mile-per-Hour Dream Machine - with the power to accelerate to 60 miles per
hour in less than four seconds. Motorists can drool over the prodigious performance
promised by this 5.5-liter, V10 engine machined from a blend of exotic alloys
and coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox by a racing clutch. The mid-engine
placement contributes to an incredibly low center of gravity. Power is delivered
to all four wheels, which measure 19 inches up front and 20 inches in the rear.
Super-light magnesium rims improve handling while large ceramic disc brakes
provide exceptional stopping power. Exceptional aerodynamics is paramount to
any car that's going to push the 200-mph barrier, and Carrera delivers. The
rear spoiler elevates to keep the back end down as the speed climbs. Air flow
has been routed to cool both the engine and brakes. Large intakes are visible,
below the headlights, scooping air for the front brakes. Another intake port
is just aft of the doors to cool the rear brakes and feed fresh air to the hungry
engine. Rare from the Start - Porsche plans to build only 500 of these super
cars. If it is added to the Porsche stable, the German manufacturer, whose name
is synonymous with racing and sporting machinery, would directly challenge Ferrari
and Lamborghini. The rumored $315,000 price tag would be a direct challenge
as well. To give this exceptional car the justice it deserves a premium quality
replica is here on offer. Every graceful curve and intricate detail has been
captured in this precision die-cast reproduction
