General information:
Once the war started Schilling was quickly promoted and by 1st March 1942 had made Captain before assuming command of the 62nd FS. In June of that year the 56th FG received a consignment of P-47B’s in advance of its move to the UK. This P-47D was one of seven P-47s assigned to Schilling during his time with the 56th FG, this particular fighter revealed an early ‘Wolfpack’ penchant for painting Dogpatch cartoon characters on the Thunderbolts by featuring a neat rendering of ‘Hairless Joe’ on its cowling.

Scale 1:72
Limited Edition of 2001
Wingspan: 9 inches
This item is new in Box. The one being auctioned has never been removed and has never been on display or on a store shelf.
From the ”Aviation Archive” Collection
General information:
Formed in November 1943 as part of No.8 (PFF) Group, 627 Squadron were detached to No.5 Group, Bomber Command in April 1944 where they specialized in developing highly accurate ‘divebombing’ target-marking techniques, achieving high degrees of accuracy. During 1944-45, 627 Squadron operated by day and night, and their Mosquito aircraft were painted in Day Fighter colours with ‘invasion’ markings after D-Day, June 6th 1944. Mosquito KB267 was personally selected by the legendary ‘Dam Buster’ Wing Commander Guy Gibson and flown by him on his last operation, as ‘Master Bomber’ to a raid on Rheydt, Germany on 19th September 1944. On the return flight from Rheydt, for reasons which have never been firmly established the Mosquito crashed near the Dutch town of Steenbergen. Gibson and his co-pilot Squadron Leader James Warwick died in the crash and are buried in the town’s cemetery. Although no photographs of KB267 are known to exist, fragments of fuselage discovered at the crash site indicate that it was carrying these full markings.

From the Corgi Site:
Towards the end of May 1943, three Hawker Typhoons were sent for operational flight trials in the Middle East. 219 Group RAF, who were responsible for finding a lodger unit for these service trials decided finally upon 451 Sqn RAAF. The Typhoon would have been an exciting follow-on to the Hawker Hurricane IIc then operated by the squadron. 451 Sqn at LG.106 near Idku under command of Sqn Ldr J Paine, having been recently withdrawn from frontline operations, would provide personnel for the tests.

General information:
RAF Banff was built for Coastal Command in 1942 in order to allow anti-shipping and anti-U boat operations over the north sea and around the coast of Norway. From October 1944 the Banff Strike Wing operated with mainly Mosquitoes. The Strike Wing crews often ran the gauntlet of heavy anti-aircraft fire as they penetrated deep into heavily defended Norwegian Fijords to attack shipping targets at anchor. The Wing achieved outstanding success but at a heavy loss with over 80 crews lost during the last months of the war 143 Sqn arrived at Banff in October 1944 operating Beaufighters but quickly converted to Mosquitoes. The 25lb AP rocket armed Mosquito FB MkVI HR405, NE-A was flown by by Squadron Leader David Pritchard DFC for a photo shoot in February 1945 and is therefore a well photographed aircraft. Its combat history is a little more sketchy but it is known to have been involved in the famous Banff Wing battle with FW190s of JG5 on 23rd March 1945 and it was unquestionably a real Banff veteran, serving with the Strike Wing from September 1944 until the end of the war when it transferred to 14 Squadron.
