General information:

Once the war started Schilling was quickly promoted and by 1st March 1942 had made Captain before assuming command of the 62nd FS. In June of that year the 56th FG received a consignment of P-47B’s in advance of its move to the UK. This P-47D was one of seven P-47s assigned to Schilling during his time with the 56th FG, this particular fighter revealed an early ‘Wolfpack’ penchant for painting Dogpatch cartoon characters on the Thunderbolts by featuring a neat rendering of ‘Hairless Joe’ on its cowling.

From the Corgi Site:

English Electric Lightning F6, serial number XS921, was delivered to 74 ‘Tiger’ Squadron in December 1966 and initially based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland. In 1967, XS921 and other Lightning’s of 74 Sqn made the long journey to Tengah Air Base in Singapore and in doing so became the first RAF fighter unit to make such a journey using air to air refuelling. The deployment to Singapore, codenamed ‘Operation Hydraulic’, gave the RAF’s Far East Air Force (FEAF) a powerful supersonic fighter element in the region. This was deemed necessary in order to deter the territorial claims made by Indonesia against nearby Malaysia, a British protectorate. The show of strength proved successful and 74 Sqn departed Tengah in August 1971 with the squadron disbanding. Its Lightnings were taken over by 56 Sqn at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. In September 1985, while serving with 11 Sqn, Lightning XS921 was lost after developing technical problems while returning to RAF Binbrook after a training exercise but thankfully the pilot was able to make a successful ejection.

de Havilland Mosquito B.Mk XX

RAF No.627 Sqn, Guy Gibson, RAF Woodhall Spa, England, September 1944

AA32816

Scale 1:72

Limited Edition of 2001

Wingspan: 9 inches

This item is new in Box.   The one being auctioned has never been removed and has never been on display or on a store shelf.

From the ”Aviation Archive” Collection

General information:

Formed in November 1943 as part of No.8 (PFF) Group, 627 Squadron were detached to No.5 Group, Bomber Command in April 1944 where they specialized in developing highly accurate ‘divebombing’ target-marking techniques, achieving high degrees of accuracy. During 1944-45, 627 Squadron operated by day and night, and their Mosquito aircraft were painted in Day Fighter colours with ‘invasion’ markings after D-Day, June 6th 1944. Mosquito KB267 was personally selected by the legendary ‘Dam Buster’ Wing Commander Guy Gibson and flown by him on his last operation, as ‘Master Bomber’ to a raid on Rheydt, Germany on 19th September 1944. On the return flight from Rheydt, for reasons which have never been firmly established the Mosquito crashed near the Dutch town of Steenbergen. Gibson and his co-pilot Squadron Leader James Warwick died in the crash and are buried in the town’s cemetery. Although no photographs of KB267 are known to exist, fragments of fuselage discovered at the crash site indicate that it was carrying these full markings.
