According to Mattel, more than 4 billion Hot Wheels vehicles have been made since the El Segundo-based company introduced the diecast toys in 1968. They are selling at the rate of two every second and, according to Mattel, some 41 million youngsters have played with Hot Wheels over the years. More than 15 million kids ages 5-15 collect and play with them today — not to mention legions of adults, who also find them difficult to resist.
